Radon Testing

Accurate and Affordable Radon Tests

We use both the E-Perm® Radon Testing Equipment and Radalink™ Aircat monitor, to perform accurate and reliable radon tests. Whether you are a concerned homeowner, a prospective homebuyer, or a real estate professional, we can provide you with accurate, reliable, and affordable testing. Our Radon testers are experienced and Licensed (where required) and can perform Radon Testing in Ohio and Kentucky. Our testers keep up with all EPA and State requirments and regularly attend continuing education to stay informed about any changes in the radon testing industry.

We are members of OARP (Ohio Association of Radon Professionals) and affiliate members of both the Ohio and Kentucky State Board of Realtors. With the Board of Realtors affiliation, we also have Supra Key access and can use Electronic lock boxes to access properties (with permission) to make your home purchase easier. We understand how to meet the needs of homeowners and real-estate professionals and pride ourselves in professional and trustworthy performance with excellent customer service. Our testing equipment is some of the most accurate on the market and both systems have tamper monitoring devices that measure movement, temperature, and relative humidity, to ensure proper testing conditions are properly maintained.

How Does the E-Perm® System Work?

An E-PERM®, e-perm_picture.jpgalso known as an Electret Ion Chamber (EIC), is a passive integrating ionization monitor consisting of a very stable electret mounted inside a small chamber made of electrically conducting plastic. The electret, a charged Teflon®disk, serves as both the source for ion collection and as the integrating ion sensor.  Negative ions produced inside the chamber are collected on the positively charged electret, causing a reduction of its surface charge. The measurement of the depleted charge during the exposure period is a measure of integrated ionization during the measurement period. The electret charge is read before and after the exposure using a specially built non-contact electret voltage reader referred to as the SPER-1 Electret Voltage Reader. Using this data as input to the appropriate formula, one can determine the radon activity present over the duration of the test.

The E-Perm® System has been recognized for over 15 years in the U.S. and around the world as a highly accurate, durable radon testing device. Rad-Elec's Electret Ion Chamber Technology has consistently outperformed all other radon testing methods in the USEPA Radon Measurement Proficiency Program. Upon completion of the radon test, you will be provided with an easy to understand report, and can have any questions asked answered by an experienced radon testing professional.

How Does the Radalink™ Aircat Work?

The Radalink™ Aircat, is the most accurate Continuous Radoaircat_photo.jpgn Monitor (CRM) on the market today. The Aircat has sofisticated tamper monitoring technology and provides an hour by hour reading of radon levels; as well as detailed graphs showing radon levels, temperature, and relative humidity in a highly detailed report sent to up to 4 email addresses that you, the client, specify.

All Radalink Monitors utilize pulsed ion chamber technology. Ambient air passively diffuses into the chamber in which the radon atoms (as well as the subsequent polonium decay products) disintegrate, emitting alpha particles. The alphas (positively charged ions) create bursts of additional ion pairs by knocking electrons from surrounding air atoms. Negative ions will pulse to the positively charged probe; positive ions will pulse to the negatively charged cylinder wall. The pulses are counted by the electrometer and stored hourly by the computer. Detector efficiency is computed by exposures to known radon concentrations to determine the pulse counts per hour per pCi/l.

Our Testers

Michael and Kevin Hesterberg are both Licensed Radon Testers, and can perform Testing in Ohio and Northern Kentucky.  Both are also members of OARP (Ohio Association of Radon Professionals) and combined, have tested over 200 homes for Radon over the last few years and regularly attend continuing education to meet state and EPA requirements. Our testers do not perform any mitigation services (We will provide a list of mitigation companies that are trustworthy and do good work, but we do not get anything from referrals) and are very serious about maintaining all EPA and State requirements.

We want our clients to feel secure that their money was well spent, which is why we use some of the most accurate and reliable equipment on the market today. Our testers are very knowledgeable in the radon testing field, and answer questions in easy to understand terms so the client walks away understanding radon, not fearing it. Michael and Kevin are also very customer service oriented and easy to talk to and will work hard to ensure customer satisfaction.
